Becoming: An Evening of Student Written Theatre
By Timothy Turner, Gene Berg, and Meredith BlackCreek
Directed by Bennett Buchholz
The night began with The Stapler by Timothy Turner, an enigmatic show that features a murder mystery, a case of mistaken identity, a modernized Moliere, and more.
UNO! by Gene Berg was the second show of the evening. An intense(ly funny) look at an American family’s game night and the familial bonds that both build them up and tear them down. First produced at DePaul University by students in the comedy arts program, Gene has created a truly thrilling look at the classic activity that we all know and love.
The show ended with Saturation, Meredith BlackCreek’s heartfelt and meaningful look at the life of Louise, an artist whose brother is suffering from a life-threatening illness. The piece explores Louise's upbringing, including her relationship with religion and how one can cope with the knowledge that their best friend is leaving them. This piece rounds out the evening with hope, compassion and unconditional love.
