Teacher Roman Sanchez is a theatre leader and director with an MFA from the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University. He previously served as a Program Manager for the California Arts Council, where he helped direct $10M in annual grant and contract funding to organizations working with justice-impacted communities. At Dell’Arte International, he stepped in as Assistant Executive Director and expanded contributed income from individual donors, corporations, and government partners. 

As an independent grantwriter, he has helped small, community-based groups secure more than $3.1M over the last three years. His broader professional path includes roles with Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Lime Arts Productions, Teatro Espejo, the California State Summer School for the Arts, the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, and TheatreWorkers Project.

His work has been recognized with a Princess Grace Honoraria, the Kennedy Center’s National Arts Impact Award, the Herb Alpert Theatre Award, and the Dexter Wood Luke Prize. He has also participated in ArtEquity’s BIPOC Leadership Circle and the Theatre Producers of Color cohort. His writing appears on the Yale Knowledge Base and HowlRound.
